In the early years the estate's doctors and baby clinic worked from the old Oxhey Place mansion. One account says the doctors began in a stable-like building beside Oxhey Place, moved to a house in Prestwick Road and then settled in a permanent surgery in Oxhey Drive, just past the police station that opened in January 1953. A new health centre on Oxhey Drive was finished late in 1957, and a resident remembers one of the first GPs working there. Another resident remembers a club for new mothers at the clinic in 1958 and 1959, but does not say which building the clinic was in. A local listing says the old mansion stayed the medical centre until the fire of 1960, but Poor But Proud says the house had been boarded up for about a year by then. In March 1999 the surgery in Hallowes Crescent, threatened with closure two years before, was revived, with a doctor from the Oxhey Drive health centre working there two days a week. Poor But Proud calls this good news for many residents, especially older ones, who had needed two buses and a long walk to reach the Oxhey Drive surgery. In 2013 a contributor to Our Oxhey wrote that the surgery past the police station was still there.5,108,118,119,126,140,146,153,176,281,486,596,597,598
