Then

Families were living in Woodhall Lane by July 1948. Before enough local schools were built, many children from the estate travelled to schools in Watford or even back in London. The local historian David Reidy, whose family came from London in 1948, was taken by bus at first to Beechen Grove School in Watford. In a comment on an Aerofilms photograph taken on 14 April 1949, John Swain points out the site of the future Woodhall Junior School. A resident who grew up next door to the estate's first library, a former farmhouse on Little Oxhey Lane, says the land opposite lay unused for a long time until Woodhall School was built there. It opened in 1954, across the road from Hampden School, and took infants and juniors from streets such as Bramshaw Gardens and Leven Close. David Reidy remembers joining the brand new school that year. Former pupils of the 1950s and 1960s remember a Woodhall Infants and a Woodhall Junior School. Hampden merged with Clarendon in 1967 to form Sir James Altham School, which closed in 1989.5,23,28,115,125,128,147,148,180,181,254,474,715

Now

In August 2024 the county council approved an adult day centre on the old Sir James Altham site across the road. Woodhall is still a county council primary school on Woodhall Lane. The Department for Education lists it as a mixed community school for children aged 3 to 11, with nursery classes.
