Then
Clarendon Secondary Modern opened in September 1951 and was completed in September 1952 in 19 acres of woodland, with blocks named after people from local history, among them Altham and Carpender. In 1967 it joined Hampden School to form Sir James Altham School, which closed in July 1989. John Swain gives 1967 to 1977 for the years this site carried on as Sir James Altham Upper School, while a resident who photographed it when it closed remembers 1975.128,165,174,180,194,195,551,573,574,717
Now
The Capel, Carpender and Ascham blocks came down in the late 1970s and the Morison and Altham blocks made way for housing, leaving Clarendon Block in use as a community centre for about twenty-five years. It was photographed inside on 13 August 2002 before demolition and again on 5 October 2002 once demolition had begun, with former pupils coming back for a last look. The day centre on Northwick Road uses buildings that were once part of the school, and another part was used for years by the Industrial Therapy Organisation. By 2013 houses and flats had been built on the old school ground.
