The Jet opened in 1959 on Hayling Road at the corner of Holmside Rise, where the 1960s Ordnance Survey marks a pub. It closed in January 2006, and that April the district council's licensing committee unanimously refused an application to reopen it. Poor But Proud says the pub had given local residents five years of trouble and that Councillor Kerron Cross led the opposition to the licence. It had been boarded up for some time when a strong fence went round it in January 2011, and it was demolished on 15 March 2011. In January 2016 Countryside's application for South Oxhey Central took in the cleared plot, about 0.2 hectares and raised above both roads, as one of three smaller sites. The plans put four houses in a terrace facing Holmside Rise, two facing Hayling Road and two set at an angle to face the corner, all for private sale.5,119,146,165,176,227,234,360,361,365
Now
Eight three-bedroom houses were built on the site. Work was under way in February 2017, and the houses were finished that September, on sale at around £490,000. Named Hayling Place, they were among the first homes of the South Oxhey Central scheme, and the first residents moved in during October 2017.
