A local listing places the Oxhey Place mansion in this area. Watford Rural District Council completed its purchase of Oxhey Place in September 1958, planning to make it a social centre, but it soon decided to build a new social centre instead and pull the house down. Fire gutted the empty house on 4 July 1960. The 1960s Ordnance Survey shows the ground empty after the fire. The council's £60,000 Social Centre opened in Gosforth Lane on 2 June 1965. In April 2001 the rebuilding of The Centre in Gosforth Lane, talked about for five years, was set to go out to tender. One reason given was that the old building was in a poor state of repair. The new Centre, a £4.5 million leisure and sports centre, opened on 28 September 2002, with a dance studio, a gym, a recording studio and an art room with a pottery kiln. When architects presented plans for a new pool and leisure centre to Three Rivers District Council on 31 January 2014, the building was only eleven years old, but Poor But Proud says its sports courts were too small, it overheated and lacked daylight, and its changing rooms were unsuitable.5,108,126,146,153,165,176,596,600,601,706,714

Building work began in February 2019. In July 2020 the council said that, with the new facilities opening here, the Sir James Altham Pool in Little Oxhey Lane would not reopen. The centre reopened in September 2020 after a project of about £9 million that added a 25-metre pool and a teaching pool. Everyone Active runs it for Three Rivers District Council, and in October 2025 the council announced a £400,000 refit of the gym, paid for by Everyone Active, to be done that December.
