Then
Once farm meadows, where old hedgerows still survive. Three Rivers District Council made Oxhey Woods a Local Nature Reserve in 1997. Natural England records that the same council declared these meadows one in 2004.5,192,704,705
Now
A 2.75-hectare reserve owned by the district council, which manages it with the Countryside Service. Natural England lists it as an urban nature reserve. The way in is from Prestwick Road, between Little Oxhey Lane and Heysham Drive, and Natural England puts it about fifteen minutes' walk along Prestwick Road from Carpenders Park station. In spring frogs breed in a seasonal pond, which draws herons too. In summer the meadows stand tall with purple knapweed, yellow bird's-foot trefoil and red clover, and are busy with insects. In autumn the hedgerows feed many kinds of bird.
