The map of the 1890s names Warren Dell, a small wood north of today's Hayling Road, and Our Oxhey says the name came from the many rabbits in the area. The estate's first school, Warren Dell in Gosforth Lane, took its first pupils in May 1949, and John Swain says its infants' school was not finished until later that year. A local listing says this was originally Warren Dell's infant school. A former pupil writes that she started at Warren Dell Infant School, now Colnbrook. She remembers drawing round wooden animal shapes and playing with salt dough the teacher had coloured, and staying until Oxhey Wood School was finished. Poor But Proud's timeline dates the change to Colnbrook to 1964. When the century-old walnut tree in Hayling Road fell after high winds in March 1999, the Watford Observer said pupils from Colnbrook and Warren Dell had studied its growth every year.5,24,58,119,123,310,526,527,571,596,721,722,723,724
Now
Colnbrook is now a county council special school for primary-age children with learning difficulties, autism or speech and language needs. The county council's directory lists 130 children on the roll and links to its papers on expanding the school. Route 328 stops at Colnbrook School, the stop parkrun names as the nearest to its start on the playing fields. A small unnamed wood still stands where the map of the 1890s marks Warren Dell.
