Then
A Salvation Army hut stood on the corner of Hayling Road and Gosforth Lane, at the west end of the estate, where two of its four main roads met. John Swain dates the houses at the western end of Hayling Road to late 1950 in one note and to the summer of 1951 in another. A parade of shops opened close by in Hallowes Crescent early in 1953. A resident remembers a Salvation Army band playing round the streets, and thinks it may have come from Watford. The same resident does not know when the hut was built.5,24,28,111,133,166
Now
The same resident says it closed in the mid 1960s and then stood empty for many years before the present housing was built on the site. The pin is the road junction itself, next to Hallowes Crescent, and the edge of Oxhey Woods is less than 100 metres to the south.
